THE BEST SURF SPOTS ON THE EAST COAST OF AUSTRALIA

GOLD COAST

Only 1 hour from Brisbane, the Gold Coast is Australia’s surfing capital. It consistently delivers great surf and is home to many world surfing champions. Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore are some of them, just to name a couple. The Gold Coast is famous for its leg burning point breaks and consistent beach breaks with plenty of learn to surf waves as well.
Surfers Paradise is in the heart of the Gold Coast and is popular with tourists and locals for a party like no other. Broadbeach too is a tourist magnet for shopping, great restaurants and the casino. These are great surfing locations.

Not to be forgotten is the stunning Gold Coast hinterland, where mountainous rain forests and waterfalls can be enjoyed at any of 3 national parks.
The Quicksilver pro is held at Snapper Rocks at the southern end of the coast every year at the famous super bank and spins off waves that are every surfers dream. Next to Snapper Rocks you have Kirra: another world class point break, and D-Bah a classic consistent punchy beach break.

All of the Gold Coasts beaches can offer amazing waves on any given day with so many options to choose from. Currumbin, Palm Beach, Burleigh Heads, Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise, Main Beach and the spit at the northern end of the coast just to name a few. All of which are more great surfing locations

BYRON BAY

Located 2 hrs drive from Brisbane is the famous Byron Bay, Australia’s most easterly point. Byron has a relaxed and alternate atmosphere due to many residents being artists, surfers, musicians, nature lovers and hippies.
Byron is home to beautiful beaches, unspoilt hinterland and world heritage listed national parks making it a hot spot for tourists all over.
There’s something for everyone in Byron, and to suit all budgets, we can guarantee Byron Bay will not disappoint.
Let’s not forget the surf because it goes off, and there are lots of options for different wind and swell conditions.
The Wreck is a classic example and produces amazing waves thanks to an old ship wreck that got itself into trouble during a cyclone in 1922.
Main Beach is a good option with right and left fun beachbreaks.
One of the main waves is the Pass a classic right hander offering great rides for all levels of surfer, although when the Pass gets big it’s for advanced surfers only.
Around the headland from the Pass is Wategos a beautiful picturesque slow peeling right hander, perfect for the Malibu riders.

On the other side of the headland you have an amazing stretch of beach starting with Tallows, then Suffolk Park and further down is Broken Head all offering great waves for the beginner through to the advanced.

EVANS HEAD

Evans Head is a haven for ocean lovers with its great surfing beaches and fishing spots. Located at the mouth of the Evans River, Evans Head is a unique coastal village.

There are options aplenty for surfing locations at Evans Head including some great learn to surf options.

With its long stretches of golden sandy beaches, Evans Head is a great place for surfing, fishing and relaxing.
A local’s favourite is Chinaman’s beach surrounded by the Bundjalung national park. It is a great place to get wet and enjoy nature.
Exploring the national parks is a must do experience. The Bundjalung national park has 38km of beaches to explore. Also, the Broadwater national park to the north has 8km of sandy perfection.

Our night fishing adventure at Evans is a great experience for all ages, and if we don’t catch anything, we can pay a visit to our local trawler friends at the marina for some of the best seafood in Australia.

MOONEE BEACH

The jewel of the Coffs Coast with great views of the Solitary marine park. Moonee is a small coastal village with a great point break. There’s plenty of surfing options to suit all abilities of surfer, including a couple of our epic secret spots.
Just out the front from where you will be staying is Moonee Point, a nice right hander. When the conditions are right, this place really fires.
The beach also has great waves for beginners and intermediate surfers. There are so many beautiful beaches to explore around this area, we won’t have time to see them all.
Also, we will take you to one of our favourite surfing locations. A place where you can surf awesome waves and watch kangaroos jumping on the headland.

CRESCENT HEAD

Crescent Head is home to one of the best point breaks on the east coast and is popular amongst the surfing community. Once you have visited this small coastal town and experienced its beauty you won’t want to leave.
Crescent Head point break is a magical wave with rides over 200 metres long. You will feel your legs burning as you surf you’re way down the point on this classic wave.
Point Plumber national park is jaw droppingly beautiful, with so many different surfing options to choose from. From intense barrels to smooth rolling waves for the beginner, something for everyone.
When you are surfed out and want to explore, there is so much to see and do. Go bushwalking and try and spot the resident koalas, or play a round of golf right on the ocean’s edge, explore the rock pools and spot the dolphins and turtles.

GREAT LAKES

Located 4 hrs north of Sydney is the Great Lakes region. The area is a haven for tourists and water sports lovers especially during the summer months. Popular activities include surfing, fishing, diving and dolphin cruises. The main town of Forster is surrounded by charming coastal towns, national parks, and stunning beaches.
1 mile is Forsters main beach which produces fun waves year round. Haydon’s Rock is a go to spot when the swell gets big, for experienced riders only.
If you like oysters you have come to the right spot, Forster has some of the best oysters on the east coast.

CENTRAL COAST

The Central Coast is located just over an hour’s drive north of Sydney. The water activities that can be enjoyed here are second to none. Great surfing, fishing, whale watching and lots more to keep the adrenaline pumping. Whilst we’re on the Central Coast, our tours pay a visit to Tree Top Adventure Park. This truly is a unique experience high in the tree tops.
